High School/Junior High/Young Adult Ministry

The Lord called Samuel again, for the third time.  Getting up and going to Eli, he said, "Here I am.  You called me."  Then Eli understood that the Lord was calling the youth.    1 Samuel 3:8

High School Youth Ministry Planning/Core Team-
The core team consists of youth and adults who are interested in planning programming for the youth of the parish.  This group consists of leaders who are willing to be part of a team and who enjoy planning.  Meetings begin in the summer to prepare for programming for the next school year.  Meetings are held as needed throughout the school year.

High School Youth Ministry
Wednesday Evening Gatherings-
A variety of programs, service projects and activities are offered to engage youth on their faith journey.  Held Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. in the yellow house or at the Ministry Center.  Check the bulletin weekly for location and topics.  We always need members of our faith community willing to chaperone, bake cookies, provide snack, teach lessons or volunteer to be present and share faith.

High School Youth Ministry:  CAP's (Consistent Adult Presence)
CAP's are adults who commit to building relationships with young people by being present on a consistent basis at the scheduled youth ministry gatherings.  CAP's are not necessarily involved in the planning or implementing activities but are encouraged to participate in the events.  CAP's commit to the youth ministry regular gatherings and they are invited to participate in service projects and youth Mass.

Youth Mass Planning Team-
Youth Mass is celebrated monthly on the first Sunday of the month at the 11:30 a.m. Mass.  Youth meet in the weeks prior to the Mass for Bible study and then to plan and practice music, write petitions, and reflect on other ways to enhance the prayer of the community gathered.  Join us as the young church share their gifts with our parish community.

Teens Encounter Christ-
Teens Encounter Christ is a three-day retreat for high school juniors and seniors and college freshman that has been held in Cary, Ohio for over 34 years.  TEC is about getting in touch with God in a peaceful environment with no expectations or distractions.  TEC is teens encountering Christ in a way that many have never experienced God before.  And not only is TEC about faith, it's also about having fun and getting to know other youth and adults from all around the Toledo Diocese.  TEC also helps young people see how the rich tradition of their Catholic faith can help them in their journey.  Volunteer opportunities exist in recruiting and transportation, and also in working on Retreat weekends.  All parents of high school juniors and seniors are encouraged to recommend this ministry to them.

Catholics on Campus-
This organization exists to serve the spiritual needs of all interested students, faculty, and staff of Defiance College from a Catholic perspective.  Meeting typically in the Lounge of the McCann Center for 1 hour twice each month of the academic year, usually in the late afternoon or early evening, students and advisors share a simple meal and insights from the last couple of weeks.  Students get involved as they are available and advisors invest 2 or 3 hours per week, depending on the number of meetings and/or special events.
