Healing Ministries

Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.  Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Matthew 4:4,7

Pastoral Commission-
Volunteers provide for the spiritual care and guidance of homebound parishioners and Catholics in local nursing homes and hospitals.  They assist the sick and elderly with their life crises, holding them up to the Lord in prayers of concern and petitions for relief.  Ministry members coordinate communion distributors to the sick, the elderly, and assist at Masses/Communion Services and room Communion at the nursing homes.
Contact persons:
Krys Drasiewski (419.784.5878), Deacon Jeff Mayer (419.438.6790), and Theresa Stahl (419.782.0720)

Hospital Visitation-
Volunteers provide basic spiritual comfort in an atmosphere of respect for the patient's ability to participate, assuring Holy Communion is available at least weekly.  Time commitments vary according to the patient load.
Contact persons:
Gloria Sunderman (419.782.6132), Krys Drasiewski (419.784.5878), and
Deacon Jeff Mayer (419.438.6790)

Homebound Visitation-
Volunteers help homebound parishioners stay connected with the parish by updating them on events and services at St. Mary.  They also lift them up spiritually and physically by praying with them for their family and personal needs and by helping them with contacts that could help with their physical needs.  Time commitments vary according to the number of homebound parishioners.
Contact persons:
Krys Drasiewski (419.784.5878) and Deacon Jeff Mayer (419.438.6790)

Nursing Home Visitation-
Volunteers visit Catholic residents at local nursing homes, praying with them and for them and ensuring that they receive Holy Communion, if able.  They also assist at nursing home Masses/Communion Services.  Pat Weber coordinates a Sunday morning Communion Service at The Laurels.
Contact persons:
Krys Drasiewski (419.784.5878), Deacon Jeff Mayer (419.438.6790), and
Pat Weber (419.784.3541)

Sympathy/Get Well Card Ministry-
On behalf of the parish, sympathy cards will be sent to the bereaved and get well cards to those in hospitals and nursing homes.
Contact person:
Shelly Shafer (419.782.2776)

Memorial Acknowledgement Ministry-
This committee sends thank you cards to individuals that have made a monetary donation in memory or in honor of a person.  An acknowledgement stating the donor's name is also sent to the family of the person being remembered or honored.
Contact persons:
Josie Dowler (419.784.0579) and Nan Weakly (419.782.9039)

Prayer Network-
People can request prayers for physical, emotional, and/or spiritual needs.  Their requests are then communicated to the prayer network who lifts them up to God's love and mercy.  The prayer network could be a great ministry for those who are unable to volunteer to the parish in other ways.
Contact person:
Ruth Bauer (419.784.1628)

Funeral Dinners-
After receiving a call from the parish office regarding a funeral, the Coordinator will call a cook, set-up person, dishwasher, and the maintenance person.  The Coordinator will notify the caller for food donations, specifying the quantity and type, and they will also contact servers with the time they should arrive.  On the day of the funeral, the food donations are delivered to the Parish Ministry Center.  Cooks and servers prepare and serve the dinner and clean up.  When many volunteers contribute, no one is overburdened and the bereaved are comforted.

Bereavement Support-
This group, lead by specifically trained volunteers, addresses topics such as understanding grief, expressing feelings, role changes, stress and coping skills, taking care of yourself, and additional sources of support.  Two six-week sessions are scheduled per year.
